Helsinki Region Centre for Expertise
Helsinki Region plays a special role in Finnish nanotechnology, as more than half of all domestic nanotechnology related activities and stakeholders are located in this area. As the local operational environment is diverse the leading task is to facilitate the cooperation and distribute the knowledge in this network.
The major academic and research players are Aalto University with nanotechnology related activities in more than 40 research groups, University of Helsinki (UH) with more than 20 active research groups in Kumpula, Meilahti and Viikki campus areas, and VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
Specialized nanotechnology research is also carried out in Centre for Metrology and Accreditation (MIKES), Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (FIOH), Finnish Environmental Institute (SYKE) and Finnish Meteorological Institute (FMI).
The expertise and recent activities of the scientific community in the region is identified in 2010 published "HelsinkiNano" report.
In addition to active research community, the world-class nanotechnology ecosystem of Helsinki Region houses a number of companies both small and big. Some of the nanotechnology companies, their expertise and products are listed in the publication: Nanotechnology in Helsinki.
